A Message From the Director, Jenni Johnston
The Art School of Peterborough was founded in 1993 by Richard Hayman. It was formerly known as The Lakefield School of Fine Art. His dedication to the arts and spirit live on through The Art School.
It has been my privilege to work at The Art School of Peterborough for the last 12 years, teaching all ages in a variety of subjects. I graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design (Toronto, Ontario) with a Fine Arts Major in Drawing and Painting in 2001. I was chosen to participate in the Florence, Italy off-shore program for my final year. After returning to Peterborough, I met Richard and started to share his love for The Art School through teaching. In 2002, I married my husband, and then went on to have three children. Throughout this time I have remained a teacher at the school and love sharing and learning new techniques and ideas with my students. It is the ultimate satisfaction to see a student blossom and grow.
2013 will mark our 20th Anniversary as a not-for-profit organization. We are extremely proud of our accomplishments over the years and continue strive to excel into the future. We offer a variety of eight week long courses and 1-2 day workshops for adults and children, Art Camps, PA Days, Birthday Parties and Date Nights. Our instructors are dedicated professional artists and they are backed by a supportive Board, staff and many volunteers. The Art School’s wonderful creative energy could not exist without out its students. Our students are the heart and soul of our establishment. They are the ones that bring the school to life.
A special thank you goes out to Anne-Marie Kornachuk. She has given The Art School of Peterborough, five dedicated years as the Executive Director and a teacher. We will miss her presence at the school but wish her all the best with her artistic career.
