Education & Experience

Graduated with Honours from two year Special Art Course from H. B. Beal Technical School in London, ON.

I began my career in advertising layout and illustration with Simpsons, Eatons and the Star Weekly in Toronto and Vancouver.

I have explored a variety of media including pottery, silk screen and photography but watercolour has been my primary focus for the last thirty years. After teaching watercolour at Fleming College for ten years I joined The Art School of Peterborough and have been teaching watercolour for about ten years. The fascinating patterns and images of nature in every season, mood and colour continue to inspire my work in all media. Presently my work may be seen at the Art School of Peterborough and the Kawartha Artists' Gallery.

Artist's Statement

Drawing has been my passion for as long as I can remember so I was not interested in painting until my first experience with watercolour... then I was hooked!

For me painting is all about that immediate, creative experience. The whole process, from squeezing the pigment onto my palette, to mixing colours, to my first stroke on that white paper, never ceases to be exciting. I continue to pursue a more direct, energetic and intuitive painting expression in my work with watercolour, fluid acrylic and mixed media.

Through teaching I hope to show students that, while learning the "mechanics" of painting, they can enjoy the experience of painting every step of the way from the initial flood of colour to that final detail. The joy is in the doing.
