Byzantine Chain Bracelet Workshop

The Byzantine chain has been made by goldsmiths for centuries and looks much more complex than it is to make... that's the secret of the smith! Learn how to make this fabulous bracelet and you'll be surprised at the compliments you get. This one-day workshop will cover making jumprings, fabricating the chain pattern and finishing the bracelet with a hand-made clasp. Brass, nickel and copper wire are included in the course fee. Those wishing to work in silver (at additional cost of $20-$40 depending on size and length of bracelet), should contact the instructor prior to the workshop.
Approaching Portraiture in Watercolour

Building a repertoire of skills for successful portraiture in watercolour is the goal of this one-day workshop. It begins with boot camp for colour mixing, specifically for mixing a variety of skin tones and warm and cool shadows. Drawing fundamentals for the face are discussed, as well as straightforward strategies for expressive hands, with demonstrations on painting the eye, the soul of the picture, and the portrait head under specific lighting. Colour handouts will be provided. Students will have the opportunity to paint from a live model for 1.5 hrs. Students can also choose to work from photographs. During the workshop we will take very brief looks at masters of the watercolour portrait such as Sargent, Homer and Wyeth.
Watercolour Animal Life (Real-live rabbit and animal portraits in Watercolour)

From peacocks to rabbits to kangaroos, this workshop uses a combination of photography and live models to engage in portraiture of animals in watercolour. Gesture painting with wash and brush, and detailed step-by-step demonstrations painting the eye and building texture create a foundation for painting animal portraits from photography, and for working from life. Colour handouts will be provided, along with demonstrations of all exercises, and reference for further study. The workshop will also feature a live rabbit model!

For all those who have not quite figured out how to make the best of their digital cameras, this day long workshop is the answer. Learn all you need to know about taking great pictures with your digital camera. The technical aspects of your camera will be fully explained and you will receive valuable tips and ideas on how to take better pictures.

Add a little splash of sparkle or colour to any outfit with wire earrings... made by you! This one-day workshop lets you explore making a variety of earrings using different types of wire and adding accents (pearls, crystal or gemstone beads). You'll learn to make your own head pins, jumprings, multiple bead links, shepherds hooks, and posts. Brass, nickel and copper wire are included in the course fee. Those wishing to work in silver (at additional cost), should contact the instructor prior to the workshop.
From Gesture to Long Pose: A Day of Life Drawing

During this one day intensive workshop, Anne Cavanagh will provide guidance in all aspects of observational drawing of the human form, from gesture and basic proportion to the developing of form with tone and the understanding of value. Student's will learn unique and essential figure drawing techniques, view demos presented in various stages and gain knowledge in various life drawing techniques and simple anatomy. This workshop is designed for those who want to spend an extended time with the model in one pose. This life drawing session will be a great day for all levels, from beginners to the more experienced.
Bring your own drawing materials (medium of participant's choice; no paint please). Easels, drawing boards, clips, donkies provided.
